India's Legal Revolution: PM Modi Ushers in a New Era with Three Groundbreaking Laws

Chandigarh, December 3, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today dedicated to the nation three transformative new criminal laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—marking the end of colonial-era legislation and paving the way for a modernized, citizen-centric judicial system.

Speaking at the ceremony, themed "Secure Society, Developed India – From Punishment to Justice", PM Modi highlighted the historic nature of this reform. “These new laws strengthen the democratic spirit of ‘of the people, by the people, for the people’ and embody the principles of equality, harmony, and social justice,” he said.

The laws, implemented nationwide from July 1, 2024, aim to overhaul India’s criminal justice framework. With a focus on transparency and adaptability, they address contemporary challenges such as cybercrime and organized crime, while promoting swift and fair justice for all. During the event, a live demonstration showcased the practical application of these laws, including a simulated crime scene investigation.

PM Modi underscored that the reforms are a step toward breaking free from the colonial mindset and strengthening the foundations of Indian democracy. He emphasized that these laws aim to instill confidence among the underprivileged, ensuring that justice is accessible and equitable.

“The mantra of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita is ‘Citizen First.’ These laws are not merely legal frameworks; they are a guarantee of equality and justice for every Indian,” the Prime Minister remarked.

The event was a vivid testament to India’s commitment to evolving its legal system, ensuring that the spirit of democracy thrives and justice serves as the bedrock of society. With these reforms, India takes a giant leap toward a future where justice is not just a right but a reality for all.
