In response to Maldivian Minister Moosa Zameer's gratitude for India's decision to export essential commodities for the fiscal year 2024-2025, Union Minister S Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s commitment to its 'Neighbourhood First' and SAGAR policies.
India has agreed to export essential commodities to the Maldives for the fiscal year 2024-2025, following a request from the Maldivian government. The quotas for these items have been revised upwards, marking the highest quantities approved since 1981. Notably, the quota for crucial construction materials like river sand and stone aggregates has been increased by 25% to 1,000,000 metric tonnes.
Expressing gratitude, Minister Zameer emphasized the enduring friendship between the two nations and their commitment to expanding bilateral trade and commerce.
In a reciprocal gesture, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar reiterated India's dedication to its 'Neighbourhood First' and SAGAR policies. These policies aim to enhance connectivity and trade within the region, benefiting countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Despite challenges, including past campaign slogans advocating for the removal of Indian troops, India remains committed to strengthening ties with the Maldives. By prioritizing its regional policies, India aims to foster economic growth and mutual understanding, further solidifying the relationship between the two nations.
